OG&E selects Norman as first Positive Energy Community

Norman will become OG&E’s first Positive Energy(R) Community and will be among the first cities in the country to be equipped with new high-tech electric meters and hundreds of in-home “energy portals” under a plan proposed by OG&E.

OG&E plans to install 42,000 new digital meters across Norman over the next two years. During the same time, about 2,000 Norman residences will be equipped with new programmable thermostats and energy-use devices to help customers track and control their electricity use.

The proposal will be considered by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission along with OG&E’s rate case scheduled to be filed today. In its filing, OG&E will ask the Commission to recover the cost of the project. A ruling on the proposal is expected this summer.
